RIFLE DIET Joins the PE Family

RIFLE DIET is a heavy as fuck crust band from the Minneapolis underground with outspoken political and personal lyrics. They feature members of GARMONBOZIA and IN DEFENCE.  This band is a rising force that is out to make a difference in the scene. And they will be one of the featured bands in the Profane Existence Limited Edition Singles Series. Their 7″, Abuse Begets Abuse,  will hit the streets this April. We met up with their front woman, Mariko, and she had a few things to say about the band and their upcoming release.

“Musically we are similar to GARMONBOZIA but we are based in hardcore as well. GARMONBOZIA were sometimes more classically based musically. RIFLE DIET doesn’t have a cello of course.

 

RIFLE DIET is a democratic band. We formed the band with the goal of taking things as far as we could but with out any pressure. We wanted to have integrity and let things happen organically. It is very important to us that we are all friends first and foremost.

 

Lyrically I write about issues personal to me. I happen to be a queer woman of color so I write about the oppression I feel through racism, homophobia and sexism. I also suffer from Bipolar disorder and so I’ll write about issues like that as well. We don’t have a set agenda per say but I can only hope this makes anyone who feels alienated feel like they are not alone.

 

The songs on the 7″ are two of our favorites. They are heavy and kind of neo-crusty. Fans of Tragedy, From Ashes Rise and even Kylesa will like this. We are very proud of this record. Lyrics touch on the cycle of  of abuse and being a minority in apolitical surroundings and how sometimes we’re just people… not politics.

Appalachian Terror Unit’s – Greenwashing LP features nine raging tracks of angry crust punk with crushing riffs and (mainly) female vocals.
